📐 How Time Zone Conversion Works

Every time zone is defined by its UTC offset — the number of hours ahead or behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). To convert: (1) Find the UTC equivalent of your source time by subtracting the source offset. (2) Add the destination offset. Daylight Saving Time shifts many zones by +1 hour from March to November in the Northern Hemisphere.

US Time Zones Explained

The continental US spans four time zones. Eastern Time (ET) is UTC-5 in winter (EST) and UTC-4 in summer (EDT) — used by New York, Miami, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. Central Time (CT) is one hour behind Eastern — Chicago, Houston, Dallas. Mountain Time (MT) is UTC-7 in winter — Denver, Phoenix (which doesn't observe daylight saving). Pacific Time (PT) is UTC-8 in winter — Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas.

When Does Daylight Saving Time Change?

In the United States, Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March (clocks spring forward 1 hour at 2:00 AM) and ends on the first Sunday in November (clocks fall back 1 hour at 2:00 AM). Arizona (except Navajo Nation) and Hawaii do not observe DST. This converter uses your browser's built-in timezone database, so DST is handled automatically for every date you enter.

Scheduling International Meetings Across Time Zones

The best overlap window for US East Coast and Western Europe is 9:00 AM–12:00 PM EST (3:00–6:00 PM CET). For US West Coast and India, there is virtually no standard-hours overlap — 9:00 AM PST is 10:30 PM IST. The converter above shows exactly what any given time looks like in multiple key cities simultaneously.

Yes. This tool uses your browser's built-in IANA timezone database (the same database used by your operating system), so daylight saving adjustments are automatic for every date — past, present, or future.

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard. Every time zone is expressed as UTC+ or UTC- an offset. UTC never changes for daylight saving. Servers, aviation, and international finance all use UTC to avoid ambiguity across zones.
